The Smartfind G8 AIS Manual beacon is an emergency device, designed to be used in maritime emergencies. Upon activation, it will send an alert signal to the COSPAS-SARSAT satellite set, this signal will be received and decoded by the nearest coordination center who will initiate a search and rescue protocol. It is also the only radio beacon capable of broadcasting on 4 frequencies, also broadcasting in AIS, and alerting all vessels in the AIS coverage area. These radio beacons are the most innovative on the market and the only ones compatible with the MEOSAR satellite system, which allows them to become the most technically advanced radio beacons, considerably improving the location time.
Hispano Radio Marítima distributes the Smartfind G8 AIS M already programmed with a unique identification to its customers, including a 3-digit country code giving a better response in the rescue action. In addition, these beacons also have a specific AIS identification for EPIRBs preprogrammed at the factory.
The G8 Automatic AIS Radiobeacon contains a GNSS receiver (which also includes GPS, Glonas and Galileo), which improves position accuracy and has a powerful distress transmitter that transmits on frequencies 406 MHz and 121.5 MHz. It is the first Rabiobaliza in the world that combines 406 and AIS, combining the 406MHz global alert with the local location and tracking power of the AIS system. It includes a high-brightness LED light that helps rescue services to locate at night or with poor visibility. Its location is determined within a range of 5 km (3 miles).
It is powered by lithium batteries capable of continuous operation for 48 hours, a factory expiration of approximately 10 years is offered, this expiration may vary according to the regulations of each country. In Spanish regulations the battery is valid for 4 years.
The McMurdo Smartfind G8 AIS automatic beacon also has the possibility of full self-test, informing you of the remaining battery and checking correct operation, without the need to be triggered in a real way.
The beacon is supplied with an exclusive support to prevent accidental activation. Once manually removed from the support, the EPIRB is activated manually or by contact with water.
