The Vetus 08-01352 “Dry Run Impeller” is a specialized impeller designed for the seawater pump in the engine cooling system.
Unlike a conventional impeller, this “Run Dry” version is better able to withstand short periods of operation without water, thereby reducing the risk of immediate damage should the water intake be temporarily interrupted. However, this does not mean it is intended for routine dry operation.
During normal operation, it circulates seawater through the cooling system, helping to maintain the correct engine temperature.
Part number 08-01352 is officially designated for Vetus M3.28 SOLAS, M4.15 SOLAS, and M4.17 SOLAS engines.
Vetus classifies this as a maintenance item; the engine manuals specify that it should be inspected or replaced at the 1,000-hour mark, in accordance with the relevant maintenance schedule.
