SmartFind G8 PLUS EPIRB
The McMurdo SmartFind G8 PLUS EPIRB incorporates several enhancements designed to reduce rescue times:
• AIS locating signal, visible to nearby vessels equipped with AIS receivers.
• Infrared (Night Vision) optical signal to assist in locating survivors in low-light conditions.
• The infrared signal can be detected over greater distances and in more challenging conditions than conventional EPIRB lights, accelerating recovery operations.
Technologies That Accelerate Rescue
• Integration of the global 406 MHz distress alert with AIS-based local positioning and tracking, a pioneering McMurdo innovation.
• Faster 406 MHz alert detection thanks to MEOSAR compatibility.
• QUADROTECH® EPIRB technology, utilizing four search and rescue systems to support the following phases:
• Alert.
• Locate.
• Tracking.
• Recovery.
• Faster and more accurate position determination through the Multi-GNSS receiver, compatible with both Galileo and GPS constellations.
• The infrared signal can be detected over greater distances and under poor weather or visibility conditions, further reducing rescue times.
SmartFind G8 Auto-Housing
The SmartFind G8 Auto-Housing is a fully protective, spring-loaded enclosure that:
• Automatically releases the EPIRB when submerged between 1 and 4 metres.
• Automatically activates the beacon upon release.
• Includes mounting points compatible with previous McMurdo automatic housings, allowing easy replacement with minimal modifications to the vessel.
Available Versions
The SMARTFIND EPIRB range is available in two configurations:
Category 1
• Supplied in a Float Free Auto-Housing.
• Automatically deploys and activates upon contact with water.
• Can also be activated manually.
Category 2
• Supplied with the SmartTransfer bracket, designed to prevent accidental activation.
• Once manually removed from the bracket, the EPIRB can be activated:
• Manually.
• Automatically upon contact with water.
Safe Operational Life
Seas of Solutions recommends that an EPIRB should be decommissioned after 12 to 15 years of service in order to:
• Reduce the risk of environmental degradation affecting beacon performance.
• Ensure users benefit from the latest available technology.
As a result:
• The SmartFind G8 PLUS EPIRB is supplied with a 10-year battery.
• Battery replacement kits include a battery with a minimum 5-year service life.
• This policy encourages regular professional inspections and helps prevent beacons from remaining in service beyond their recommended operational life.
